It’s been announced that the Boston Red Sox will play an alumni game at Fenway Park on May 27, the first such game in about 25 years.
It’s a 3 Inning affair and the two sides will be managed by Dewey Evans and Luis Tiant.
List of Sox Alums
Wade Boggs, Oil Can Boyd, Orlando Cabrera, Scott Cooper, Jim Corsi, Lenny DiNardo, Alan Embree, Rich Garces, Jonny Gomes, Mike Greenwell, Sam Horn, Chris Howard, Bill Lee, Darren Lewis, Steve Lomansky, Derek Lowe, Mike Lowell, Julio Lugo, Steve Lyons, Keith MacWhorter, Pedro Martinez, Lou Merloni, Rick Miller, Mike Meyers, and Troy O’Leary
Not a bad list. There’s definitely some names you expect to see. The Red Sox could hold a Tiddlywinks Tournament in the middle of December and Oil Can Boyd and Bill Lee would be the first to arrive.
Pedro is certainly the biggest name on the list but he’s really embraced his status as a Sox Legend so not really much of a surprise there.
Seeing Boggs back in the Sox fold is still a shock. His number has been retired for a few seasons now but the mid 90s acrimony from his NY stint, not sure that will ever fully go away. But he’s in the Hall with a Red Sox hat and his number is up there with all the rest of the greats so it’s nice to see him participating in something like this. Chances he slaps a single to left – pretty high.
Who’s Missing?
Is there a bigger upset than not seeing Kevin Millar on this list???? Dude was playing in an Independent League game just a year ago, hit a ding dong in his only at-bat too:
The game takes place before the Sox face off against the Atlanta Braves in an inter-league clash.
Jonny Gomes…🙄🙄🙄… will not watch this strictly due to his involvement
