‘sup? BennyGloves checking in, and this week the boys are swinging the sticks in Mexico.
And I am so ready for this. Golf in Mexico sounds awesome. Just fans hammering Coronas and ‘ritas. The course allows you to play in tank tops and flip flops. Its probably in like a desert. Hitting lob wedges around Cactus and hybrids over mountains. Everything just real arid and dry looking. I can’t wait any longer, let’s check out the World Golf Championship at Chapultepec Golf Club:
wait, what? This is what this course looks like? Well… that’s a rip off. Let’s see how the golf is going…
Coming in to today’s round 3, Shubhankar Sharma of India (it’s a global game now, thanks again Tiger 😉) had a 2 stroke lead. Sharma would be only the 2 person to win their WGC debut after Russell Knox turned that trick in 2015. But our man Sharms is no flash in the pan. He turned pro at the age of 16 and has been playing well of late. He is the only two-time winner on the European Tour this season leads the Race to Dubai, and is No. 75 in the world. He has a chance to move into the top 64 after next week to get into the Dell Match Play in Texas, and an outside shot of getting into the Masters. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves, the Sharm-wow still has some work to do this weekend as there are 10 players within four shots of the lead coming into today’s round. That group includes defending champ Dustin Johnson. In fact the Chap may be perfectly suited to DJ’s Game given that it is sited some 7000 feet above sea level. That extreme elevation certainly favors players with length.
Fun fact from ESPN senior Golf writer Jason Sobel:
Final group today of Shubhankar Sharma, Xander Schauffele and Rafa Cabrera Bello. That’s 93 Scrabble points even without any bonuses
Here’s a live look in at the leaderboard:
Shubba-Bubba is still playing well. Phil and Sergio right on his tail and DJ and JT just straight up lurking. Should be another great weekend.
