Shammgod or No Shammgod? You Make the Call

The Houston Rockets beat the N.O. ‘ Cans last night. This is not news.

What is news is that at the conclusion of the third quarter Chris Paul hit a buzzer beater off the dribble, a move that some are saying was a Shammgod crossover. Here’s the play in question:

Long time Hi-Topper Nationers will recall a profile we did of Hoops Legend God Shammgod. To pull an in-game Shammgod Crossover is the Holy Grail of on-court dribble moves. Instant “Handles” are bestowed if the crossover is executed successfully.

So did CP3 pull a Shammgod last night. Let’s take a look at the original:

To compare the two moves is like comparing a Picasso to a Bob Ross. Yes they’re a both technically paintings but one has style and artistic flare and the other is a bunch of trees in a forest.

Paul does go through the Shammgod steps, the ball leaves his right hand and the defender takes a swipe at it as Paul pulls it back with his left but Paul then fumbles the transfer and the whole thing is just plain sloppy. Yes it’s a Shammgod Crossover but it’s poorly executed with little style. A bonus point is awarded for making the defender swipe and miss and hitting the shot.

Verdict – 🏀🏀🏀❌❌ 3 out of 5 on the Shammgod scale
