Hi-Topper Top 5 – Holiday Songs

‘It’s the season…to hear Holiday Songs non-stop everywhere you go. By December 10th the Lil’ Dogg is usually ready to rip the speakers out of the wall at Shaw’s if I hear one more terrible country singer ruining Jingle Bell Rock but right now we are in the sweet spot. The zone where hearing The Beach Boys “Little Saint Nick” brings forth a smile and not a holiday shopping rage buried deep within.

Presenting Lil’ Dogg’s Top 5 Holiday Songs*

*if you’re expecting Silent Night or Bing Crosby or Cole Porter this is not the list for you

5. George Michael “Last Christmas”

The late George Michael had an absolute golden touch in the 80s and that extended to this holiday original that’s become a season staple.

4. The Kinks “Father Christmas”

The Kinks are hit or miss but this is a big time hit. A snot-nosed English middle finger to your everyday holiday song.

3. Adam Sandler “Hanukkah Song”

Love him or hate him Sandler was everywhere in the mid 90s and this was his juvenile masterpiece.

2. The Waitresses “Christmas Wrapping”

Does it get any better than a New Wave Christmas?

1. Band Aid “Do They Know It’s Christmas”

No it gets no better than a New Wave Christmas. A murder’s row of 80s stars. When Bono grabs the mic in peak Bono form oh man that’s the Holidays I want to hear when I’m struggling to find a last minute gift on December 23.

Facts is facts. That’s the list and there’s no debate. Give me these songs and you can take your Mariah Carey and Leann Rimes and stick ’em in a pile of discarded Christmas trees.
